Some interesting information about Picton.

Picton is at the top of the South Island of New Zealand. Picton is the terminal for the Interisland ferries that link the North and South Islands. This picturesque town is the gateway to the Marlborough Sounds with its secluded bays and beautiful beaches. Picton is also known for the famous hiking trail, the Queen Charlotte Track with it's magnificent views and pure natural New Zealand environment.

The Port of Picton is situated at the head of Queen Charlotte Sound, one of four Sounds which make up the Marlborough Sounds. Queen Charlotte Sound is by far the busiest of the four Sounds as it is the main thoroughfare for the Interisland ferries which provide passenger, car and rail transport to Wellington twenty fours a day.

A two hour jorney by car takes you to Kaikoura where whales and dolphins provide spectacular entertainment.

Marlborough and Nelson are the sunniest places in New Zealand and compete each year for that award.
